Modernization of Railway Line Warszawa - Lodz
stage 1 - section Skierniewice - Lodz Widzew
Line Warszawa - Lodz
constitutes an important connection of the length 129 km. between two city agglomerations, covering line no 1 from the station Warszawa Zachodnia to station Koluszki and line no 17 from the station
Lodz Fabryczna to station Koluszki.
1st stage of modernization is conducted within the three design and build contracts for:
1. section Skierniewice - Koluszki (length 41,8 km ), the contractor of which is the Consortium lead by:
Trakcja Polska - PKRE Spolka Akcyjna settled in
Warszawa,
2. section Koluszki - Lodz Widzew (length 21 km) the contractor of which is Consortium lead by:
PKP Energetyka"
Sp. z o.o settled in Warszaw,
3. instalation of signalling system In Local Steering Center Koluszki.
The Contractors of the modernization of the two sections named in positions 1 and 2,
Biuro Projektów Komunikacyjnych in Poznań Sp. z o.o. in cooperation with
CBPBBK "KOLPROJEKT" Sp. z o.o. in Warszawa, and Biuro Projektów Kolejowych i Usług Inwestycyjnych Sp. z o.o. in
Lodz, is preparing complex design documentation including modernization of:

superstructure and substructure
· track layout,
· signalling equipment,
· telecommunication,
· power supply for existing and planned future traffic,
· building constructions and bridges,
· adapting to current regulations concerning environmental protection
Expeted result of modernization is to increase speed of trains with classical rolling-stock to 140 km/h, and the rolling-stock with inclined body to 160 km/h, so as to achieve time of travel below 75 minutes on the whole line Warszawa -
Lodz, to increase security of traffic, decrease traffic and infrastructure costs, to limit noise and vibration level, improve security at level-crossings and decrease pollution.
