Project co-financed by ISPA funds
Poznan Railway Node is a
significant part of the E-20 railway line. It is located in the
territory of seven stations: from Swarzędz station in the East
to Poznan-Junikowo station in the West and covers the area of
20 km. The main station is Poznan Glowny, where intersect E-20
and E-59 railway lines.The later (the North – South route)
links to the international E-30 railway line (Dresden–Ukraine).

Poznan Glowny station
General project objectives
Present
bad condition of the geometry of track lay – outs and the
pavement in the Node do not allow to operate trains over 80
km/h. For this reason, there have been established the following
objectives and effects which should be obtained:
1. besides
the speed increase – modernisation of traffic controlling
devices on the entry and the exit from the node for more
efficient controlling of traffic in the whole node area;
2. the
priority is safety and reliability as well as uninterrupted
traffic flow in the whole Poznan Node;
3.
modernised
track layout will enable stopping on additional lines on
stations without necessity to occupy the running lines;
4.
increase
in safety on level crossings due to decreasing their number and
the equipping the remaining level crossings with modern
signalling and “visual supervision“;
5.
increasing
of safety due to construction of two- level crossings;
6. increased
capacity of the E-20 railway line after completion of works and
train operation using modern 6 MW locomotives;
7. improvement
of transport quality and cutting the journey time through the
capacity increase in the node;
8. maintaining
the current functions of the station with the possibility of
increasing quantitative parameters of the transportation offer;
9. cutting
of costs of railway transport and rationalisation of
infrastructure use on the section Swarzedz–Junikowo;
10. improvement
of transport offer and consequently increase of the number of
clients through:
a. improvement
of travel comfort,
b. reduction
of travel time,
c. increase
of railway competitiveness (speed and punctuality).
11. reduction of maintenance and labour costsh:
12. crucial
element of the project is the improvement of environmental
conditions within the
construction area
After the
modernisation the E-20 railway line is supposed to become the
main line within Poznan Node improving the connections between
the EU countries and the countries of Eastern Europe.
